Tongkil is a philippine municipality in the province Sulu in Region Autonomous Region in Muslim which belongs to the Mindanao group of islands. The municipality Tongkil is seated about 86 km east of province capital Jolo and about 952 km south of Philippine main capital Manila.
Tongkil is a 4th class municipality. Regarding urbanization Tongkil is classified as rural. Tongkil occupies an area of 352.59 km². By the end of 2007 Tongkil was the home of 22,502 residents. Thus by average 63.82 people are living on one km².
Administratively the Municipality of Tongkil is subdivided into 14 barangays. One forms the center of the city wheras the other 13 are in the outlying areas. Some of them are even several kilometers away from the center of the Municipality. The most populous are North Paarol, Tinutungan, Bakkaan, Kahikukuk, Sigumbal, Tattalan, Danao, Bangalaw, Tambun-bun, Luuk (Pob.), South Paarol, Tainga-Bakkao, Tabialan, Dungon.
