Pontevedra is a philippine municipality in the province Negros Occidental in Region VI Western Visayas which be­longs to the Visayas group of islands. The municipality Pontevedra is seated about 34 km south-south-west of province capital Bacolod City and about 511 km south-south-east of Philippine main capital Manila.

Pontevedra is a 3rd class municipality. Regarding urbanization Pontevedra is classified as partly urban. Pontevedra occupies an area of 112.50 km². By the end of 2007 Pontevedra was the home of 46,768 residents. Thus by average 415.72 people are living on one km².

Administratively the Municipality of Pontevedra is subdivided into 20 barangays. 3 compose the center of the city wheras the other 17 are in the outlying areas. Some of them are even several kilometers away from the center of the Municipality. The most populous are Mabini, Burgos, Zamora, Gomez, Buenavista Rizal, Buenavista Gibong, General Malvar, M. H. Del Pilar, Cambarus, Barangay II (Pob.), Barangay I (Pob.), Pandan, Recreo, San Isidro, Barangay III (Pob.).

Among the bigger cities and muni­ci­pa­li­ties in the neigh­bor­hood of Pontevedra there are Bago City 18 km north-west, Bacolod City 34 km north-north-east, Toledo City (Cebu) 85 km east, City Of Kabankalan 43 km south, Cadiz City 79 km north-east, Iloilo City (Iloilo) 49 km north-west, Silay City 48 km north-north-east, Sagay City 84 km north-east, City Of Himamaylan 30 km south as well as 46 km east-north-east of Pontevedra the municipality San Carlos City.
