Oton is a philippine municipality. It is located in the province Iloilo in Region VI Western Visayas which is a part of the Visayas group of islands. The municipality Oton is seated about 8 km west of province capital Iloilo City and about 462 km south-south-east of Philippine main capital Manila. The geographic coordinates of Oton are 10° 41' 34'' N, 122° 28' 26'' E.

Administratively the Municipality of Oton is subdivided into 37 barangays. 4 compose the center of the city wheras the other 33 are in the outlying areas. Some of them are even several kilometers away from the center of the Municipality.

According to the 2007 census, Oton has a population of 77,621 residents and belongs to the 294 emerging cities and municiplities in the Philippines which have more than 50,000 inhabitants but did not reach 100,000 yet. Based on the number of its inhabitants Oton is number 223 of the most populous cities of the Philippines and at 40 in Visayas group of islands and at 2 of the most populous cities of province Iloilo. With an area of 86.44 km² Oton occupies a relatively small urban area. Accordingly, there is a high population density. In Oton, by average, 897.98 people live in one square kilometer. With this value, Oton is only number 24 in Visayas and is nationally ranked 166th of the most densely populated cities in the Philippines.

According to the Philippine income classification for provinces, cities and municipalities Oton is a 1st class municipality. The urbanization status of Oton is classified as partly urban.
