Monkayo is a philippine municipality in the province Compostela Valley in Region XI Davao Region which belongs to the Mindanao group of islands. The municipality Monkayo is seated about 26 km north-north-east of province capital Nabunturan and about 933 km south-east of Philippine main capital Manila.
Monkayo is a 1st class municipality. Regarding urbanization Monkayo is classified as partly urban. Monkayo occupies an area of 609.61 km². By the end of 2007 Monkayo was the home of 90,971 residents. Thus by average 149.23 people are living on one km².
Administratively the Municipality of Monkayo is subdivided into 21 barangays. One forms the center of the city wheras the other 20 are in the outlying areas. Some of them are even several kilometers away from the center of the Municipality. The most populous are Inambatan, San Isidro, Olaycon, Mamunga, Rizal, Haguimitan, Macopa, Salvacion, Union, Babag, San Jose, Baylo, Naboc, Awao, Pasian (Santa Filomena).
