Cortes is a philippine municipality in the province Surigao Del Sur in Region XIII Caraga which belongs to the Mindanao group of islands. The municipality Cortes is seated about 16 km north-north-east of province capital City Of Tandag and about 819 km south-east of Philippine main capital Manila.
Cortes is a 4th class municipality. Regarding urbanization Cortes is classified as partly urban. Cortes occupies an area of 127.08 km². By the end of 2007 Cortes was the home of 15,913 residents. Thus by average 125.22 people are living on one km².
Administratively the Municipality of Cortes is subdivided into 12 barangays. One forms the center of the city wheras the other 11 are in the outlying areas. Some of them are even several kilometers away from the center of the Municipality.
